Rick Shone is fighting for Fort Garry.
Rick is an active volunteer who is dedicated to improving the lives of those he serves. He has been a youth cycling coach and previous board member of Central Neighbourhoods Association. He is a current board member of the West End Biz and supports many other local social and environmental organizations.
As the son of an immigrant to Canada and hardworking parents of 6 children, Rick was raised on a small farm outside of Winnipeg to have a strong work ethic and compassion for others. Family is most important to Rick, and he is a proud husband and father of two. Through deliberate conversation and many shared experiences, he loves teaching his kids about life, values and understanding towards others. In his spare time, he is an avid cyclist, outdoor enthusiast and loves to play the fiddle.
Rick made Fort Garry home while attending the University of Manitoba where he received a BA Adv. Following graduation, he moved on to the Asper School of Business and gained foundational understandings of business and realized his passion for entrepreneurship. He is a firm believer in lifelong learning and is currently completing his dissertation for a Master’s in International Relations.
As an avid outdoors enthusiast, Rick combined his passions of business and the outdoors when he negotiated the purchase of the Wilderness Supply Company and grew it to the strong, independent business that it is today. Rick has employed many Manitobans over the years and understands the importance of creating jobs for our economy and the value of fiscal responsibility. Additionally, Rick founded a not-for-profit organization called Swamp Donkey Adventures. The organization has raised tens of thousands of dollars for charity and has hosted 50 complex outdoor sporting events for over 15,000 participants who challenge themselves physically and mentally to learn and experience new things.
Rick is excited to bring his passion, drive and over 20 years of experience in business and customer service to fight for Fort Garry.
