Harm Jacob Woldring

Independent for New Westminster Mayor
New West spends to much and in the wrong places. With Council support, I will FREEZE all non-union wages and conduct a complete review of City Operations. The GOAL: Better Financial management, lower taxes and long overdue investment in community amenities.

Misc. topics

Affordable Housing

Never ending annual tax increases are driving people out of their homes. We need to get our City's Financials and project management under control. Affordable rentals are being squeezed out between escalating tax and operating costs and rent controls. We need to trim taxes!

Community-Building

21st Century technology can help us work to build consensus as opposed to pitting neighbor against neighbor. See https://unanimous.ai/

Good Governance

Our City has had DLC endorsed councils for far too long. We aren't getting the balanced governance we need. Elect an INDEPENDENT Council and Mayor. Vote for a POSITIVE Change! Let's start getting things right, let's put the people first. https://unanimous.ai/

Public Engagement

The current public engagement process, based public feedback, leaves a lot to be desired. It comes too late and #PEOPLE don't feel heard. 21st Century tech can go along way to fixing it. Check out https://unanimous.ai/ Let's build consensus instead of conflict.

Recreation

We need recreational facilities in the parts of town where people live. The current location is too far from the key public transit centers and makes it too hard for all those who've abandoned car ownership to get to our amenities.

Road Maintenance

Job 1 - control wage and salary growth and create funds needed to catch up after 20 years of abject neglect!

Small Business

New West's commercial property tax and utility rates make it an unattractive place to set up a business. At 3.6x the residential rates, businesses look to neighboring cities before New West. These tax rates MUST come down to make our city a place where businesses can prosper

Traffic

Why is there only one approach to this problem - block vehicle traffic. We need to get things moving again while keeping the goal of making New West pedestrian and cycle friendly. Swarm intersections, all traffic stops while people move and vice versa is another option.

Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
The single greatest issue facing New West is the runaway budget. Our taxes and utility rates go up every year and most of the money ends up in executive and administration pay packets with NOTHING left over for the people for things like swimming pools and public use amenities.

These never ending annual increases are at the root of the housing affordability crisis, homelessness and the massive income disparities between the have's and have nots. Senior executives have received more in salary increases over the past decade than the average income of the majority of our residents.

October 20th is our chance to TAKE BACK our City from the cabal of CUPE, the DLC and their political instrument s at New West City Hall.

On Oct 20th VOTE for an INDEPENDENT COUNCIL that will work for the #PEOPLE not the special interests.
