My goal is to make Burnaby more welcoming, more affordable and more democratic. Families are forced to leave our community because of unaffordability. I want to strengthen people's connection to the community by ensuring residents, regardless of their politics, feel heard.

Within one year of being elected, submit a formal request to council to raise Burnaby’s community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets to meet or beat the new province-wide standard of 40% by 2030, 60% by 2040 and 80% by 2050 below 2007 levels.

Homelessness

We will invest at least $10 million annually to increase the supply of affordable homes. We will protect existing rental buildings from demolition and introduce standards of maintenance bylaws to ensure buildings are maintained.

Natural Disaster Measures

Work toward an effective emergency response and management plan, and educate the community on the plan. Complete seismic upgrading of all public facilities. Make housing more affordable , so first responders do not have to cross bridges and fight traffic in the event of disaster

Pedestrian Safety

Prioritize completion of a citywide accessible sidewalk network. Mandate AAA cycling facilities for future upgrades and new developments, making every street or sidewalk safe and accessible for all

Public Engagement

We will review the public consultation process and move to make it more robust and authentic. The same criticisms of the NEB process equally apply to Burnaby's process. Neither is acceptable.

Public Transit

We will work with the Mayors' Council and Translink to improve multimodal connectivity to our 11 Skytrain stations and other frequent transit hubs. Prioritize completion of a citywide accessible sidewalk and cycling network.

Recreation

We want to maintain and enhance the amenities that touch the most people in our community. We will reduce the barriers to accesiblity by reducing fees and prioritizing inclusive facilities. We need to improve the composition and accountability of the parks commission.

We will enhance seniors' recreation and social opportunities in the City. We will create an office dedicated to seniors' advocacy. We will ensure all seniors have a safe and secure home.

I have lived in and around Burnaby since 1988, for the last 18 years in Metrotown. I am a public school teacher in New Westminster. My goal as a councillor is to ensure that all people have a voice and receive the respect we all deserve. I have two children in Burnaby schools.
