1) Andrew Weaver, BC's lone Green MLA, proved in the last 4 years that BC Green Party ideas are creative, original, and sensible enough to attract the support of many British Columbians AND the BC government. It would be an undeniably good thing for BC and for Surrey-Guildford to have more BC Green voices and ideas in the Legislature! Our riding and our province face increasingly difficult challenges around sustainable growth and development. We are blessed with a beautiful land and it is rich with natural resources, but it will require careful balanced long-term thinking and innovative ideas to ensure we're all taken care of today AND in the next generations. No other party weighs the future so concertedly as the BC Green Party.
2) A major provincial responsibility that greatly effects Surrey-Guildford is education. Across our riding, a generation of kids have made their way through the school system with overcrowded classrooms, schoolyards full of near-permanent portables, and reduced in-school services like librarians and counsellors. Today's promises from a government that created and ignored this problem for over a decade are simply not good enough. Previous years' budget surpluses could've been put into education, not just a promise in a pre-election budget, but this government instead chose to spend taxpayer dollars defending a losing position all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. British Columbians and residents of Surrey-Guildford deserve greater respect.
