My vision for the community is a place where the beauty of the surroundings brings people to visit and the cost of living and availability of good jobs entices them to stay. The Shuswap bases it's economy largely on it's beautiful lake and mountain views as well as the expansive ALR lands. We live in an open, inclusive community where we run into neighbours at the grocery store but still open our homes and wallets to welcome refugees and immigrants. I was proud to be part of my union local when they voted to donate $5000 to the Syrian Refugee Coalition in 2016.
The NDP have always been advocates for the working people. Without them we would not have universal health care, Worksafebc which protects workers, some of the best human rights legislation anywhere, and countless other initiatives that have worked to lift people out of poverty. I envision a future where social programs are accessible, housing is affordable, taxes are progressive, and democracy is returned to all people, not just the rich. I'm tired of a government that serves only those who can afford to buy their loyalty. I want a government that serves all of us.
