Tyson is 28, a Métis activist and organiser, presently pursuing his Master's degree at UVic's history department in the Cultural, Social, & Political Thought program. He has long been involved with the anti-racist, decolonial, peace, environmental, labour, and student movements.

A lifetime resident of Vancouver Island, Tyson is presently working towards completing his M.A. in history in the University of Victoria’s Cultural, Social, & Political Thought program, having received his B.A. in history. Tyson is writing his Master's thesis on the historic relationship between the socialist countries and the national liberation / anti-colonial movements. In addition to UVic, Tyson has spent time studying in Kyiv, Ukraine, at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

Tyson has a history of activism in a variety of areas, including the anti-racist, peace, labour, environmental, and student movements, playing an organizing role in student strikes and rallies against tuition hikes. Tyson is Métis, proudly tracing his family tree back to Louis Riel, and is a fierce advocate of indigenous sovereignty and decolonization.

He is the organiser for the Communist Party of Canada's Victoria club, and a member of the Young Communist League's Central Executive Committee. Tyson also co-founded the Olive Tree Group, a local Palestinian human rights organisation dedicated to raising public awareness of the ongoing dispossession and oppression of the Palestinian people, and to support non-violent direct action in support of the Palestinian cause. In the past, Tyson has worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Victoria in the history department, a music teacher, a painter, labourer, senior’s home server, and entertainer. Additionally, Tyson has experience in international solidarity and relationship building, having participated as a delegate, participant, and keynote speaker at a variety of youth and student congresses and other events around the world, even hosting a webinar with Bolivian President Evo Morales last June.

"Horgan’s snap election is a reckless and undemocratic power grab that puts the people of this province in danger. We can’t go back to the Liberals, but we can’t let this cynical premier get a majority either. He needs to be punished at the polls, and there is a socialist alternative on the ballot!"
