Biography
Harman Preet Singh is a legal professional with experience in criminal defence, immigration, administrative law, public policy, governance, technology, and business. He brings a unique combination of legal expertise, governance experience, and an understanding of innovation and economic opportunity.
Harman previously served as a Student Member of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Board of Governors, representing more than 22,000 students. In this role, he gained valuable experience in institutional governance, strategic decision-making, accountability, and advocating for the interests of a diverse community.
He is currently completing his legal articling in British Columbia and holds a J.D./BBA LL.B. His education also includes public policy studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, entrepreneurship studies at Babson College, and an advanced diploma in computer programming. This interdisciplinary background gives him a broad perspective on law, public policy, technology, and economic development.
Harman is committed to helping build safer, healthier, and more resilient communities across British Columbia. His priorities include safer neighbourhoods, stronger responses to homelessness, addiction, and mental-health challenges, improved access to justice, greater opportunities in education and skills development, and public institutions that are accessible, transparent, and accountable.
Outside of his professional life, Harman values family, fitness, and lifelong learning. He enjoys yoga and working out and especially cherishes time with his six-year-old niece and four-year-old nephew. They keep him grounded and remind him of the importance of building a better future for the next generation.
Harman speaks English, Punjabi, and Hindi, allowing him to connect with and listen to people from diverse backgrounds across Surrey-Newton. His experience in law, public policy, technology, business, and governance gives him a broad and practical perspective on the challenges facing our community.
He is committed to bringing that experience into public service – by carefully listening to residents, understanding the issues that matter most to families and businesses, and working toward practical solutions for a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Surrey-Newton and British Columbia.
