Reason for running

I can't sit back and let bullies be in power. We can see the chaos that governing with hate and disrespect for people does. I can not let our beautiful city continue along that path. EVERY Vancouverite deserves a chance to thrive.
Compassion and kindness is the way.

I am a firm believer in kindness is the key to life. I want to take this and create an inclusive council that sets up all Vancouverites for success, no matter your age, sex or economic standing. Every one of us deserves a place to call home and the chance to work and thrive.

I will try to keep the mayor in check and not stop all social programs that will help our most vulnerable just because he wants our neighbours to do better. I want to lead the way and show all other municipalities how it is done. Create more rental housing that caters not only to those that are most vulnerable but for everyone that does not make over $80,000 a year. We need more places like Rodden Lodge that have rent to income (30%) this will help seniors, mothers, workers that were deemed essential during the pandemic yet we are making it hard for them to afford housing in the city they work in.

I also want to see these buildings have street level commercial units, for small business owners. Let's help the small "mom and pop" shops have a chance to better our communities. We can have more independent cafes, salons, corner stores, art studios, day cares, doctors' offices. We could cater to the needs of the community by not only giving people homes, but we can have people create community by building their dreams of owning a small business.

I know how a small business can help shape a city as I had Coming Home Cafe for 17 years in New West and because of it they now have a Pride Festival that is a major economic and socially important event and one of the reasons it took shape was because of the people that had a chance to meet and gather in a small community minded small business.

I want to see more done for the environment, more solar panels, more wind energy, more walkable neighbourhoods. We should be a leading city in sustainability yet this council is taking a step back.

And the end of the day I think Vancouver has a chance to show the province and the country that we can lead with kindness and when doing so, people, businesses and government will step up and join us in making Vancouver a better place for all of us.
