John Hogan was elected Leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador on May 3, 2025, and sworn in as the 15th Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador on May 9. First elected as MHA for Windsor Lake in 2021, he brings to public life a strong commitment to service and a background in law, leadership, and community engagement.
A graduate of Memorial University and Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law, Premier Hogan was called to the bar in both Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador, and later founded his own law firm in St. John’s. He has held several senior roles in Cabinet, including Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Attorney General, Minister of Health and Community Services, and Government House Leader.
Premier Hogan has represented the province on major legal, health, and public safety issues, and served on boards such as the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, Memorial University’s Board of Regents, the St. John’s Port Authority, and Clean St. John’s. He now lives in St. John’s with his wife, Gillian, and their two children.
