Biography

Blake Desjarlais (he/him) was born in ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ (Edmonton) and raised on the Fishing Lake Métis Settlement.

    Prior to his election as the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Griesbach, Blake was a community activist and National Director of the Métis Settlements General Council.

    Blake made history in September 2021 when he was the first openly Two-Spirit person ever elected to the House of Commons and the first Indigenous representative from Edmonton.

    Blake has served as the NDP’s Critic for Indigenous Housing, International Trade, Diversity & Inclusion, Youth, and Sport. He was part of the NDP’s negotiation team for the 2022-2024 Supply and Confidence Agreement between the NDP Opposition and Liberal Government.

    He is also the inaugural co-chair of the Canadian Pride Caucus, a multi-partisan group of 2SLGBTQIA+ MPs and Senators in Parliament.

    Blake and his partner are proud to call the neighbourhood of Griesbach home.
