Lindsay Mathyssen currently serves as the Deputy House Leader and the Critic for National Defence. She previously served as Critic for Women and Gender Equality and is currently the deputy critic in this portfolio.

MP Mathyssen serves on the Standing Committee for National Defence and the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on National Defence, she also serves on the Standing Committee for Procedure and House Affairs.

MP Mathyssen is a Member of the Subcommittee on Review of Parliament’s involvement with Associations and recognized Interparliamentary groups, and a Member of the Joint Interparliamentary Council.

Lindsay also serves as a member of the Canadian NATO Parliamentary Association, and the Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, along with several International Parliamentary Friendship groups.

Lindsay continues to fight for women and families and has delivered real action to fully implement pay equality legislation, improve access to vital public services, stop violence against women, and push for a universal, national, and affordable childcare program.

She has introduced several Private Member’s Bills, including Bill C-217, An Act respecting the development of a national strategy in relation to fresh water, Bill C-300, An Act to amend the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act, the Defence Production Act and the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act (Canadian products and services), Bill C-218, An Act to amend the Excise Tax Act (psychotherapy services), and Bill C-208, An Act respecting early learning and child care.

As the NDP’s former Critic for Diversity, Inclusion and Youth and Critic for Post-Secondary Education, Lindsay stood up for people who are too often ignored by government decisions. She’s worked to create a future where racism, discrimination, homophobia, and transphobia have no place in Canada.

Lindsay is the fourth generation in her family to live in London-Fanshawe and is honoured to serve the people of her community.
