David Wojtowicz

PPC candidate for Edmonton Strathcona
I intend to advocate for the end of lobbyism and create rent restrictions to end the exploitation of people in my riding. For far too long rent and housing prices have continued to rise at uncontrollable levels which have severely impacted the people of Edmonton Strathcona.

Reason for running

After being born and raised in Edmonton, I realized the impact politics has and will continue to have in my life when I got my first paycheck from my first job at a restaurant. This moment sparked my interest in the field and led to me getting further educated and involved.

Canada is the best country you could ever ask for. We have such beautiful forests and mountains, rich in valuable resources especially with oil and clean water, massive borders with space to comfortably house millions of people. I love this country and I believe that the nation is in a sense like a parent that provides to us our entire lives the food, water, and shelter. A nation is such a valuable creation that leads to communities working together and indulging in cultural activities that keep us united and happy together. Today can you really say that Canadians are united and offer strong communities? That our government is really doing what is within the best interests of all Canadians? That our justice system is protecting us from dangerous people? It was these questions that I started to ask as I learned about the political environment of the nation.

I started my journey by meeting the leaders of the major political parties when they visited my city starting with the LPC (Justin Trudeau) and I was very unimpressed and felt very out of place in that crowd. Mr. Trudeau's speech discussed nothing of importance and did not attempt to do anything productive aside from telling the crowd that the LPC is good and will save Canada and to just keep voting for him. I then met the leader of the CPC (Pierre Poilievre) and was also very unimpressed with how generic the speech was, that there was no backbone to it and he did not cover any of Canada's real problems but rather tried his best to please the crowd with ear candy. It was then when I began to realize that the two major establishment parties are equally just as much of a cancer to this wonderful nation, that both of these parties don't truly support Canadians but rather the corporations and elites of society through lobbyism and other means. I began to wonder what I could do to help this nation that provided for me my entire life, how I could do my part in repaying it and progressing it to something even greater while I am alive. It was at this time that I met the leader of the PPC (Maxime Bernier) when I heard about him through family, he was having an event close by. This was the first leader I had met that was genuine and talking about real issues and problems within Canada, the exact problems that I believe are destroying our nation and he was in front of me speaking not to please my ears but to explain what needs to change. I even got the chance to have a conversation with Mr. Bernier after the event and he felt very real to me and devoted to Canada.

After meeting Mr. Bernier I began further research on the party and its policies. The more I read, the more I was interested. They were doing what no other party was doing, tackling actual real problems with the country and saying the things that everyone else was afraid of saying. The leader of the party was so determined on his values and principles that he was even arrested and jailed at one point when trying to protest with other Canadians for more individual freedoms. At this point I had decided that the People's Party of Canada was the only party fit for running this country, that it would actually serve the interests of Canadians. I decided that I would find my local candidate and help them campaign by volunteering and doing whatever else I could, but to my surprise there was no candidate in my local riding for the PPC! So I thought deeply about it and decided that since no one else was stepping up, I would. I originally was going to run for the Mill Woods riding as I currently live within it just under Strathcona near the whitemud. Eventually, the PPC were looking for a candidate for Strathcona as they could not find someone to fill the spot. There was another candidate with no riding assigned that lived further south in my riding, and I was asked if I wanted to possibly swap to the Strathcona riding as I lived by the border of it. I accepted as I want to help the party expand however I can and for half of my childhood I used to live within the Strathcona riding, I attended the Saint James school as a child.

The reality that I have come to learn is that where there is no principle there is no trust, if someone cannot stay true to themselves how can others trust them to do what they say they will do? I stand firm on principle and believe that my views will best serve the people of my riding and Canadians. I believe that our nation needs to unite and stop allowing these establishment parties to divide and conquer us with identity politics, that we are all Canadians and we should be working together to advance the country and make the world a better place rather than having all of our money stolen through slow bureaucracy. I believe that lobbyism should be a forbidden practice and that the justice system needs serious reformation to keep our citizens safe from dangerous people. I believe that there is many sinister practices which are legal within society such as land lords raising rents to unaffordable levels with no restrictions, that businesses are exploiting our politicians with hidden deals and allowing foreign countries to rinse our nation of its resources and land.

Many people have told me that my goals of changing the country into a better place are unrealistic and that the system is too corrupt to fix, but I don't believe we can just give up. I will keep trying to make these changes no matter what it takes, these changes are essential for our nations survival and growth. I know many people within my riding who are suffering from unrestricted rent increases and it hurts to think how none of the leaders in parliament are even talking about these problems, we should be asking why they waste our time discussing things like Taylor Swift to perform in Canada (I am not joking the parliament really wrote a letter to Taylor Swift about this) and rather things that make life very hard to afford across Canada and in many cases even unaffordable. I swear that I will change the lives of the people within my riding for the better and I believe that with the PPC in power many of my ideas will actually take shape and not just help my riding but the entire nation itself. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and I really do appreciate it because it tells me that you care enough about the nation to further research the candidates and carefully make your vote, I wish you all the best and I hope you have a better insight on who I am, why I am running, and what I will do.
