Blair Mahaffy is a lifelong resident of southeastern Manitoba. Born in Winnipeg, he spent summers in the Whiteshell, raised a family in Lorette, and now lives at West Hawk Lake.

Throughout his life, Blair has given generously of his time, serving as president of the Rotaract Club of Winnipeg Assiniboine, treasurer and chair of Frère Jacques Nursery School in Lorette, Cub Pack leader and treasurer for First Lorette Scouts, an early member of Fair Vote Manitoba, and a board member for the Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Association. He enjoyed lending a helping hand on many school camp and band trips with his children and spent many hours volunteering at their schools. He is currently involved in several community initiatives in the South Whiteshell, including co-hosting regular music sessions and a monthly conversation café which brings people together to talk about a variety of important and engaging topics.

Blair is a software developer, working with small, independent retailers across Canada. He is well known to his customers for having empathy and understanding of both their technical and businesses challenges and brings a unique blend of technical expertise and inter-personal communication skills to his work. He also does occasional work as a horseback riding guide and enjoys engaging with people from all over.

Active in policy development for both the Green Party of Manitoba and the Green Party of Canada, Blair is a proponent of meaningful electoral reform, which would bring a variety of voices to the table in a spirit of cooperation and consensus. He is keenly aware of the problems of social and economic inequity and is a supporter of Universal Basic Income to help deal with emerging economic, social, and environmental risks. Blair believes we must live within our means, both economically and in our relationship with the environment and the planet’s resources, and that the economy is a component of, and dependent on, a healthy environment. He believes that a well-funded public healthcare and education systems that are flexible to local needs while being equally available to all, play an important role in economic development.

Despite our first-past-the-post system that encourages polarized results and strategic voting, I believe it is important that people have a place to vote for the value of sustainability, whether that is for climate, social justice, peace & stability, or our democratic system.
