I’m a Political Science student at the University of Windsor. Throughout my academic career, I’ve led fundraising efforts for the downtrodden. Today, on a much grander platform, I believe I can help even more people.
My contemporaries will be in power one day, but by then, the damage to our future will have already been done. No amount of environmental action will bring back the animals that will have gone extinct or the landmasses that will have sunk beneath the sea. Politicians and corporations are not immortal, but the consequences of their actions are. I seek to hold them accountable. Why does the onus of saving our planet fall on the individual, anyway?
As the two biggest parties work hand in hand to ignore the climate, ransack education, and pave the way for the rich to become richer, we must ask: What are we being left with? Canada stands on a moral precipice, and as we shift away from the United States, we must ensure that our new orientation is more just than ever.
Whether it’s through investing in new and eco-friendly technology, upholding international law where others might ignore it, or ensuring that there are enough roofs over people’s heads, the future can be just as bright as the present is dreary.
