Biography
Anthony Housefather was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Mount Royal in October 2015.
In Ottawa, Anthony has served as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights, as well as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour, to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, and to the President of the Treasury Board.
Anthony has been Chair of the Canada-Israel Friendship Group since 2021 and is also on the Executive of the Canada-US Interparliamentary Group . He co-founded and co-chairs the International Task Force of Parliamentarians to Combat Online Antisemitism, a bipartisan group consisting of legislators from around the world. He is also the North American Co-Chair of the International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians.
Anthony has two law degrees from McGill University and an MBA from Concordia University. Before he was elected, he served as Executive VP of Corporate Affairs and General Counsel at a multinational technological company. He was first elected as a municipal councillor in his early 20s and served as a councillor and then as Mayor of Côte Saint-Luc from 2005 to 2015.
Anthony participates in numerous activities in his community and is a 12-time medal winner in swimming at the Maccabiah Games in Israel. In 2020, he took the top national ranking in swimming in his age group in the 100-metre butterfly.
