Nina has resided in Mary’s Harbour, Labrador her entire life except for time in St John’s completing a Political Science/English Degree with Memorial University.

Since retiring from Canada Post, she has been working as a Licensed Substitute Teacher in her area. Among her notable volunteer work is Town Mayor, Harbourview Manor Co-Chair, Labrador Regional Appeals Board Member (For Municipal Disputes), and Youth Justice Forum. She is also a trained peer facilitator with Empowering Indigenous Women (EIW) and a PHASE instructor with the Canadian Junior Rangers.

Nina has also been recently appointed Chair of the Board of Empowering Indigenous Women (EIW), representing all indigenous women across the Province of NL. She also currently sits as a Board Member of Writers NL and Them Days Magazine.

As the daughter of a Residential School survivor, Nina has just published her first book of three, exploring the human impact of those schools about family members. Her newly released “Labrador Patella”, won the Provincial Percy Jane’s award in April.

Nina and her husband Lewis will celebrate forty years of marriage on August 31st. Her family includes a son who is a Petty Officer in the Canadian Navy, a daughter who is Math teacher in Mary’s Harbour and three teenage grandchildren.
