Biography
John Henderson is the Conservative Party of BC candidate for Powell River-Sunshine Coast.
John is currently finishing his second term as Mayor of the District of Sechelt. During his first term, he led the team that designed, funded and built the award winning SecheltWater Resource Centre, which treats wastewater to amongst the highest standards in Canada. Re-elected in 2022, John has advocated strongly for the needs of rural communities across Canada.
His service to the Coast extends beyond municipal government. He was chair of the Sunshine Coast Community Forest, and served on the board of BC Ferries for 2004 to 2008. He also chaired the Sechelt Sewage Facilities Commission in partnership with the Sechelt Indian Government District. He has served as a director of the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club, and coached Sunshine Coast youth soccer. In 2012, John’s service to his community was recognized with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. John believes the Sunshine Coast can lead the province, not follow it.
John pairs his passion for community service with nearly 50 years of business experience, including 20 years based in Hong Kong. John earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UBC in 1977 and his Chartered Accountant designation in 1979. In 1997, he was awarded the prestigious Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants designation.
