Steve Kent is a dedicated husband, father of three, and lifelong community builder with deep roots on the Avalon Peninsula. Raised in Paradise and Mount Pearl, he spent much of his childhood between Mahers and Cappahayden.

Steve’s passion for public service began early. At just 19, he became the youngest Deputy Mayor in Mount Pearl’s history and later served as Mayor from 2003 to 2007.

Elected as MHA for Mount Pearl North in 2007, Steve was re-elected twice and held key roles such as Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services. Throughout his political career, he worked tirelessly to improve healthcare, municipal services, and community engagement.

Beyond politics, Steve has excelled in leadership roles across the private and non-profit sectors. He served as Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland and founded FOCUS Group Consulting Inc., specializing in management and marketing strategies. Steve also co-owns two driving schools, operating Young Drivers of Canada centers in Newfoundland and New Brunswick.

A passionate volunteer, Steve has chaired national boards for Scouts Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, and Give A Mile. In 2024, he was elected to the World Scout Committee, championing global youth empowerment.

Steve Kent’s proven leadership and commitment to our region make him a compelling choice to be Avalon’s voice in Parliament.
