Biography
Danilo Velasquez was born in Nicaragua, where he spent his childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood before immigrating to Canada in September 1988.
Danilo is the founder of ¿Quiénes Somos? (Who Are We?), a bilingual (English & Spanish) social media news channel that promotes inclusivity, equality, multiculturalism, and the rich diversity of Canada’s national capital region. He created ¿Quiénes Somos? as a way to express his deep gratitude to Canada for giving him and thousands of newcomers a second chance at life, offering opportunities, freedom, rights, and a better quality of life.
For 25 years, Danilo has been a dedicated community journalist, advocating for the well-being and prosperity of diverse communities in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, Montreal, and across Canada.
Danilo is recognized as a community-oriented, family-oriented, and solution-focused leader. He brings integrity, experience, and a strong skill set to his work. He is committed to defending and upholding the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which Canadians inherited through the courage and sacrifices of veterans in both World Wars. He stands for transparency, accountability, and truth.
Danilo is widely respected for his exceptional community-building expertise, his advocacy for equality and inclusivity, and his dedication to social justice. He is particularly committed to advancing the prosperity of women and girls. A leader of action and vision, he works tirelessly toward positive change and prosperity for all Canadians.

The Mérite Citoyen Award (2023) in Gatineau, recognizing his contributions to strengthening the Ottawa-Gatineau region as a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
The Sovereign’s Medal, the highest honour in Canada’s award system, for 20 years of volunteerism. The official presentation ceremony is scheduled for April 30, 2025.
Danilo is deeply passionate about Indigenous communities and actively raises awareness through his social media platform about their history, culture, and traditions, amplifying their voices across Canada.
He holds a postgraduate degree in Scriptwriting with a Broadcast major and works full-time as a Customer Success Specialist.
Danilo is married to Irelis and is a proud father of four daughters—Alana, Tanika, Jahnessa, and Anahi—and a grandfather to Zion.
