Biography

Jag Sidhu immigrated to Canada in 1989 and completed the remainder of his education in Canada, graduating from Abbotsford Senior Secondary School. Growing up in Abbotsford as part of a large extended family, Jag learned the value of hard work, community and giving back.

His early years included working on a farm, picking berries and working at McDonald’s, experiences that shaped his appreciation for hard work and opportunity.

Jag has worked as a realtor for over two decades and has been recognized as a Medallion member for his achievements in the industry. Throughout his career, he has built strong relationships with individuals, families and businesses throughout the community.

Together with his wife, Jag has raised their two children in Abbotsford. Both have grown into successful adults, and raising his family in this community has given Jag a deep personal connection to Abbotsford and its future.

Community involvement has always been important to Jag. Over the years, he has supported local initiatives through donations, blood donation campaigns, blanket drives, collecting and donating food to those in need, and flood-relief efforts. He has also volunteered with and supported various local sports organizations, including soccer and Run for Water.

His commitment to helping others extends beyond Canada. Jag has supported communities in Punjab, including helping fund water wells, supporting education and assisting families in need, including helping women from financially disadvantaged families with marriage arrangements.

For Jag, community means showing up, helping where he can and creating opportunities for others. His life experiences as an immigrant, a father, a realtor, a volunteer and a longtime Abbotsford resident have shaped his commitment to the community he is proud to call home.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I’m running for Abbotsford City Council because I want to give back to the community that has been my home for decades and where my family was raised.

Abbotsford has given me and my family many opportunities, and I want to use my experience and community connections to contribute to its future.

I believe City Council should work in the best interests of all Abbotsford residents. I want to be transparent in my decision-making, listen to different perspectives and remain accessible and approachable to the community.

Most importantly, I want residents to know that their concerns will be heard. If elected, I will work hard to represent our community, be available to residents and help build a safe, connected and thriving Abbotsford for current and future generations.
