Carolyn Hofbauer

OneBC candidate for Surrey-Fleetwood

Affordability

Compare

Childcare

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promise

Families should not have to wait for a targeted government credit. We favour broad relief with straightforward rules, backed by a credible fiscal plan; let's get to the root of the problem.

Tax measures and rebates

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

Borrowing for operating deficits transfers today’s spending to tomorrow’s taxpayers and constrains future services through interest payments.
OneBC has committed to balanced budgets within four years and allocating part of future surpluses to repayment.

Climate Change & the Environment

Compare

Forestry industry

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

Resource communities require permits, fibre supply, capital investment and competitive operating costs, not another round of press conferences after mills are lost.
OneBC proposes increasing allowable annual cut, lower stumpage charges, and shorter permit and consultation timelines.
The province should publish timely market-based fibre and stumpage data so industry decisions can be tested against a transparent supply forecast.
Changing annual allowable cut is constrained by forests’ long-term productivity, conservation requirements and specific land-use obligations; it is not a simple unlimited volume lever.

Forests and forest conservation

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promise

Forestry’s competitiveness is exposed to softwood lumber trade policies and market prices, which cannot be controlled solely from Victoria.

Green industry

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

If the NDP wants stable forestry jobs, the province has to demonstrate an economic timber supply and timely approvals.
We would make the underlying data public and hold ministries to published permit service standards.

Oil and gas development

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promise

OneBC calls for a pipeline to tidewater at Prince Rupert or Kitimat and more western provincial co-operation on energy and provincial interests.

Education

K-12 curriculum

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

Parents should know whether their children are mastering reading, writing and mathematics—and schools should be accountable for measurable progress.
OneBC proposes stronger standardized assessment and an enforceable Parental Bill of Rights with curriculum transparency and informed consent for minor-aged students.
Education funding should be evaluated by student learning and classroom supports rather than administration alone.

K-12 learning needs

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

Children only get one chance at this. Families should see reliable learning results early enough to get help, and public dollars should follow effective instruction and transparent outcomes.
Saskatchewan’s 2023 Parents’ Bill of Rights includes regular academic information and curricular notification provisions. We can do the same here in B.C.

LGBTQ+ students and bullying

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

Saskatchewan’s 2023 legislation requires parent consent for use of a new gender-related preferred name/identity for students under 16.
BC should institute its own Parental Bill of Rights which would include access to information on sexual-health instruction.
We want classroom materials open to parents, academic learning at the centre, and every student treated with dignity.
Removing a set of teaching resources is a policy debate about education and transparency—not permission to mistreat anyone.

Health & Healthcare

Compare

Diagnostic and procedure wait-times

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

We want patients treated, not waiting while institutions expand.
We support full public funding for core care, openness to alternative delivery where lawful, and independent measurement of what actually reduces waiting.

Drugs and addiction

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

Public safety and compassionate recovery are not opposing goals: protect neighbourhoods and create an effective path away from addiction.
OneBC calls for a sharper focus on repeat violent offenders, an end to prescribed safer supply and consumption-site expansion, and a shift toward treatment and recovery facilities.

Emergency wait-times

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promise

More money in the system matters only if patients receive timely care; the priority must be appointments, surgery, emergency services and patient outcomes.

Gender-affirming care

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

The party’s policy concerns SOGI teaching resources and parental rights. Regardless of disagreement about teaching materials, every student deserves safety, dignity and protection from harassment.
We want classroom materials open to parents, academic learning at the centre, and every student treated with dignity.
Removing a set of teaching resources is a policy debate about education and transparency—not permission to mistreat anyone.

Health administration

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promise

OneBC supports private delivery options alongside a fully funded public system and shifting resources from administration to frontline personnel.

Jobs, Businesses, & Labour

Compare

Economic growth

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

OneBC’s economic argument is that private employers create durable opportunities when taxes, approvals, and regulation make investment worthwhile.
The strongest charge against the Eby NDP is the mismatch between spending plans and visible results: large projected deficits, a heavy debt trajectory, and continuing challenges in access to care and housing.
Our alternative is lower taxes, a full review of public spending, faster private investment, foundational education, and accountable government.

Reconciliation & Indigenous Nations

Compare

Reconciliation

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promise

DRIPA is a 2019 B.C. statute establishing duties relating to the U.N. Declaration and co-operative decision-making; its own text says it does not derogate from section 35 constitutional rights.

Rights of Indigenous peoples

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

Ask the NDP to explain how each agreement affects fee-simple owners, resource approvals, public finances and representative consent.
ONE BC will repeal DRIPA.
ONE BC will halt voluntary transfers.
ONE BC will assert UNDRIP has no independent force in B.C.
ONE BC will seek federal Indian Act reforms.
ONE BC will end mandatory government land acknowledgements.

Treaties with First Nations

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

OneBC’s published policy is to repeal B.C.’s DRIPA legislation, halt voluntary transfers of public land/resources/control and demand greater accountability for public funding.
A sound public debate can insist on transparent agreements, property-title security and equal application of the law while respecting Indigenous people and existing constitutional rights.
“Rights and reconciliation should be pursued through clear law, transparent negotiations, and secure property title.
British Columbians—including Indigenous residents—deserve to know who has authority, what is being transferred, and how funds are audited.

Society & Government

Compare

Budgets, deficits, and provincial funding

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promises

ONE BC promises a budget balance within four years; surplus allocations go toward debt repayment.
Interest payments are a permanent demand on taxpayers before a patient sees a nurse or a child enters class.
Eby should explain a credible exit from double-digit-billion-dollar annual deficits rather than describe each new borrowing program as proof of strength.
ONE BC would publish a four-year path to balance, expose the underlying assumptions and report progress quarterly.

Good government and anti-corruption

Compare other promises

Carolyn Hofbauer's promise

British Columbia should measure government by what residents can afford, whether they can receive care, and whether they can find work—not by the size of an announcement.

Carolyn and her husband are raising their son, Blake. Family is at the centre of her life and shapes how she thinks about the future of her community.

Carolyn’s involvement in politics began during college. Since then, she has volunteered on campaigns, knocked on doors, made calls, worked in campaign offices, and spoken with voters about the issues that matter to them.
