Biography
Carter Mochinski is a youth advocate, climate organizer and community member who grew up in Lake Country and has a strong connection to the Okanagan. He is passionate about climate action, reducing inequality, improving education and making sure young people have a meaningful voice in public life.
Carter represented Canada as a delegate at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30 in Brazil, where he advocated for climate education and spoke about the impacts of climate change on young people. He has also worked with the BC Parks Foundation and independently to support stronger connections between nature, climate education and the provincial curriculum.
He is also a TEDx speaker and has spoken publicly about inequality in the education system, including the experiences of neurodivergent learners and the need for more inclusive approaches to learning.
Carter currently serves as Director of Research and Publications with the BC Youth Council, a non-partisan, youth-led organization focused on connecting young people with politics through educational resources, advocacy and opportunities to engage with elected representatives.
His community involvement also includes serving as a youth representative with the BC Parks Foundation and previously as a Youth Councillor with the District of Lake Country, where he advocated for young people in his community.
Having grown up in the Okanagan, Carter has a deep appreciation for the balance of natural beauty, urban communities and rural life that defines Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream. He is running to bring his experience in youth advocacy, climate action and education into public service and to be an accessible and engaged representative for the community.
Reason for running
Public service is very close to my heart, and I am excited for the opportunity to earn your vote and fight to be your MLA. While you will most certainly get the opportunity to see me face-to-face, I want to offer a short explanation on why I am running with the BC Greens and why I am fighting to represent you.
I am running as a BC Green because the people of Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream deserve an MLA who truly represents us. Someone they know as a community member, someone they can trust, someone not motivated by power, but by making our community a better place. I chose the BC Greens because I believe that through our policy approaches and values, we will help create a better BC. I run as someone who will tell you what I believe is the best approach to the crisis we are in, not to be critical of my fellow candidates, nor to insult or personalize their campaigns. I’m not interested in playing party politics. However, I have to illustrate the story that has been true for our community for the past two years.
Previously, Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream has had poor representation and hasn't had someone they could go to to advocate for their issues. With me, that changes; as a candidate, my focus is on being a reliable, trustworthy representative of our community. When I moved away from the lowermiand land to the Okanagan, specifically in Lake Country. I remember the first time driving through our community on highway 97, I instantly knew I was at home; the balance of beautiful nature and the urban-rural vibe captured my young, nature-loving mind. I love this community and all it has to offer. I see the strengths, beauty, and struggles it has. While Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream isn’t perfect and there are many issues I want to work on, there is so much beauty. I will represent our community with the love, passion, and integrity it deserves.
