Policies are driven by the needs of the community. Public safety, roads and infrastructure, affordable housing/responsible growth, homelessness, economic development, and parks and recreation. Strong financial management is what will provide the budget to prioritize.

Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
My name is Jeff Shields and I am seeking a second term on council. I am a life long resident of Chilliwack and I am married with two grown daughters. I am a Chartered Accountant and have been CFO of a locally-owned family business for over 20 years.

I have always been a proud and passionate resident of Chilliwack and feel fortunate to call it my hometown. For many years I volunteered and served the community through several organizations including Big Brothers, Chilliwack Flight Fest, CEPCO, and Rotary as well as coaching youth soccer and serving as a volunteer firefighter. I have enjoyed all Chilliwack has to offer from its mountains and lakes to the great recreational facilities and of course the wonderful people.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I combine a strong business background with years of community service to provide a balanced voice. Roads and transportation, responsible housing growth, public safety, and financial management are my strengths.

City council works as a team and each player must bring their individual strengths to the table. Then they must listen and learn, ask questions, research, and rely on experience to develop a basis for making a decision. Throughout my life, that is how I have made most of my important decisions whether it be personal, business, community, and, for the last four years, as a city councillor. It's about making the right decision, not the easy one.
