Biography
“I was raised to leave things better than I found them.”
Ben Holt is a technology professional, community advocate, youth sports coach and longtime North Vancouver resident with experience in collaborative problem-solving and environmental advocacy.
Ben was raised in North Vancouver-Seymour and later returned to the North Shore to raise his own family. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Victoria and has built a career in technology as a software development team lead and systems administrator.
His professional work has focused on collaborative open-source technologies serving higher-education and municipal clients. His projects have included helping local governments improve how they communicate with residents and deliver services online.
Ben’s involvement in community advocacy grew from his connection to North Shore recreation. As Chair of the Mount Fromme Residents Association, he worked with neighbours, recreational users and District of North Vancouver staff to address concerns around parking, traffic and public access to the Mount Fromme trail network.
He has also coached youth soccer and baseball, served on the Highlands Little League board, supported local schools and preschool organizations and volunteered to teach coding to elementary students.
The 2021 heat dome deepened Ben’s concerns about climate change and its effects on his family and community. He later became involved with environmental advocacy organizations including Save Old Growth, On2Ottawa and Last Generation Canada, participating in non-violent civil resistance calling for greater government action on climate change and environmental protection.
Ben is running in North Vancouver-Seymour to bring his experience in technology, community problem-solving and environmental advocacy into public service, with a focus on housing, affordability, transportation and climate action.
