Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
Pat McCutcheon is a retired professional engineer, small-business owner and longtime Cloverdale resident who raised his two sons in the community with his wife.

Pat graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science and went on to build a long career in engineering. In 1995, he founded his own engineering consulting firm, providing services to heavy equipment manufacturers across the Lower Mainland. He operated the business for 28 years.

Pat's professional background has given him experience in problem-solving, long-term planning and working with businesses across the region. Pat is also an active member of the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce.

Pat is deeply involved in community service. He volunteers with nonprofit organizations that provide free food, clothing and essential programs to neighbours in need, as well as with organizations focused on addressing climate change.

He joined the BC Greens in 2019, motivated by a belief in evidence-based policy and the need for environmental, economic, social and fiscal sustainability.

Pat is running in Surrey-Cloverdale to advocate for stronger public services, more affordable housing, climate action and a more proactive approach to the challenges facing the community.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
Traditional political parties have failed BC residents for the last 50 years. Social services have declined, wealth inequality has skyrocketed, housing has become unaffordable and climate change has been ignored. Structural change is required to reverse this decline.

I would advocate for changes to our tax code so that the builders of our economy and society, our workforce, receive a tax break while the financial gamblers, crypto, options, futures and prediction market traders, are taxed more heavily. I would advocate for a wealth tax on households with wealth over $50 million.I would push for the government to build more affordable housing. The fossil fuel-based economy is a sunset industry and is in decline. We must electrify and pivot rapidly to renewable energy for the sake of future generations and to take advantage of the energy transition
