Mayor for Change. Show citizens the real cost before borrowing. Police building before more Build Kamloops. Fix what we own before we build more. Transparency behind city hall doors! Citizens First. Re-elect Reid HamerFour years ago, Reid Hamer-Jackson told Kamloops that City Hall had stopped listening. He has spent his term proving it.

Twelve down to earth motions with the citizens first in mind were brought to the council table. Two passed, both only after amendment. Three were never even seconded — no debate, no vote, nothing. A forensic audit of City departments: defeated eight to one. A policy against the City hiring councillors' immediate family: defeated, after three councillors left the room because their own relatives work there. Ending catered meals for council and senior staff, twice: nobody would second it.

That is the change he represents. Not a promise about accountability but four years of evidence about what happens when one person asks for it alone.

He ran in 2022 on safety first. He is running now on accountability first, and the reason is simple: safety costs money, and money nobody is watching goes to whatever is loudest rather than whatever is urgent.

On borrowing. The Alternative Approval Process lets the City borrow without a vote unless ten per cent of electors formally object. Use it for pipes and water treatment — fine. Use it for hundreds of millions on discretionary projects most residents never heard about until the deadline passed, and silence is not consent. Reid has asked for mail-outs to households. He has been told they cost too much, by a City that has spent close to half a million dollars on councillors investigating each other.

On building. He wants the performing arts centre but not on that site, because of the parking and the way the boorrowing process was brought to the citizens He wants recreation to advance but after the City uses the land and buildings it already owns. And the police services building, which is not part of Build Kamloops, should be settled before that program goes a step further.

On what we already own. In May 2026 a water main failed. Eight thousand households without water for 36 hours. Six schools closed. The first repair failed too. Every dollar deferred on maintenance is borrowed from a day like that. Asset Management.

On safety. People need a route out, not another night in the same circumstances. Agencies operating in a neighbourhood should answer to it. And no one neighbourhood should carry the whole city's hardest problems, which is exactly what many areas of the city are asked to do.

On food. Every road into this valley has closed at some point. Land that grows food is not surplus land.

Here is the part that decides it. A mayor is one vote of nine. Five carries a motion. Reid has spent four years being the one - and one is not enough. What Kamloops elects on the council side will matter more than the name at the top of the ballot.

Vote Saturday, October 17. Look the council candidates up, and vote for the ones you trust - however many or few that turns out to be.
