My entry with the Green Party of Canada’s Federal Council in 2023 was a dramatic learning curve about the swarming microcosm that is federal politics!
I am an intercultural and independent researcher based in Calgary, and I most recently have been publishing an online arts magazine and developing a layman’s level presentation regarding the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the latter to reduce universal “tergiversation”: a word they use meaning “to confuse with details,” which is an example of why I felt the need to become involved!
In other projects, I have presented at international conferences (2019 International Conference on Diversity in Organizations, Communities and Nations), and been academically published (International Journal of Diverse Identities, 2019). My recent facilitator and volunteer roles as Co-Chair with the Truth & Reconciliation subcommittee of the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good gave me many chances to bridge the gap between diverse parties while building presentations and relationships. Additionally, the wide range of people I tutored between 2011 and 2023, along with the interviewing & story development of the MUSICAlive! Magazines show my EDI skills being applied in ESL teaching and interpersonal engagement.
In this general field, I believe that helping disseminate intercultural sensitizing information, or other work in a communicative capacity, might improve Canadians’ (and others’) ability to make some important decisions about our world and their future. And not having been frightened off after running in the 2021 Federal Election, I am even more determined to step up and offer the choice to Canadians that others, less determined than I, simply are not!
