Dr. Stephen Ellis, a physician from Truro, was elected Member of Parliament for Cumberland-Colchester in 2021 and served as the Shadow Minister of Health.
Stephen grew up in Lincoln, New Brunswick, and excelled in school as valedictorian. He earned a science degree (cum laude) from Dalhousie University before joining the Canadian Armed Forces’ Medical Officer Training Program to fund his medical education. As a military doctor, he served in Canada and overseas, earning the Special Service Medal and Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, and rose to the rank of captain.
After returning to Truro in 1999, Dr. Ellis had a successful 23-year career as a family physician, while also providing emergency and chronic pain care. He’s deeply involved in his community, founding the Truro Walk with a Doc program and participating in the Bible Hill Fire Brigade, Scouts Canada, minor hockey, and the Guatemala Outreach Project.
Dr. Ellis is an active cyclist, golfer, and hockey player. He’s been married to Deborah for 32 years and has three adult children and two grandchildren.
