Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
As a parent of school aged children I am passionate about SD79 and the important decisions being made that impact all of our children, educators and the larger community. As the daughter, granddaughter and niece of career educators I deeply respect teachers and education.

I grew up, as an uninvited white settler, on these sacred lands of our Hul’qumi’num speaking Indigenous hosts. In 2004 I graduated and left our community; for 14 years I studied abroad, achieved my dream of being a working professional actor and then I landed the most dynamic role of my lifetime - mother to my 3 children. While I had the opportunity to live in several big cities and become inspired and empowered by incredible and diverse mentors, I was homesick for this place every day until I returned with my husband and children in 2018.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I believe that people who are actively parenting young children should always be at the table that is charged with making big decisions that impact today’s children. Inclusion, equity, community care, engagement and innovation are my core values.

As a parent of school aged children I am passionate about our School District and the important decisions being made that impact all of our children, educators and the larger community. As the daughter of a recently retired career educator, who grew up playing My Little Ponies at the back of a Biology Lab, I understand the day in day out reality of a teacher. As a family support worker and perinatal educator, I am adept at listening to the concerns, questions, hopes, dreams and fears of parents. As a doula I have been trusted by many members of our community to show up, care deeply and practically support their family’s most tender and intense moments with a calm and measured presence. As a systems change advocate in an interdisciplinary field (reproductive justice) I am accustomed to problem solving in a collaborative way that also holds people and institutions accountable.
