Rod is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers. He practiced law in the Philippines before immigrating to Canada in 1980.

As a former two-term Richmond School Trustee (2008-2014), Rod advocated for good governance and more support for teachers and students in need. He helped the Board establish the Audit Committee to help in the financial reporting, risk management, audit and budget process.

As long time Richmond resident and community leader, Rod has served in the various Richmond Advisory Committees and community organizations. He is a Rotarian, Knight of Columbus and Director of RBS.
