Wayne Broughton

My priorities include increasing Ministry of Education funding, changing policies to reflect projected growth vs current enrolment. As the parent of LGBTQ kids, I strongly support SOGI-123 and I trust our teachers and librarians to choose their classroom books and resources.

Wayne is a University Math Professor, married father of two and newest incumbent, having won the Trustee by-election just over a year ago.

As a university math professor, Wayne has been an educator in Kelowna for 26 years. Most of his students have come through our public-school system in the Central Okanagan and his youngest child still attends a local public school. Wayne deeply values the importance of education, not only from pre-Kindergarten through post-secondary, but to help children become life-long learners. Wayne values diversity and inclusion, Let's re-elect Wayne to the School Board to ensure the values of integrity, compassion and logic in our leadership!

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
To bring integrity, compassion, and logic to the School Board, and to ensure the values of equity, inclusion and diversity are celebrated.

As the parent of an autistic child and kids on the LGBTQ spectrum, I am keenly aware of the importance of all students feeling safe, included and respected at school. I strongly support curriculum resources like SOGI-123 and I trust our teachers and librarians to make the best choices for their students. Even if you do not have children in the school system, you can and should vote for School Board Trustees. The School Board manages an annual budget of about $300 million, sets policy and direction for the district, and is the largest employer in the Central Okanagan. Your vote reflects your values and the kind of community you want to live in.

In this election voters can select up to four school trustee candidates, but you can decide to pick only one, two, or three! Just over a year ago you elected me to the School Board in a by-election. It has been a challenging and rewarding year and I look forward to building on that experience and continuing to serve our community and students. I hope that I can count on your vote on October 15th!
