Require that Manitoba’s minimum wage rate be set at that level that allows a single working-age adult working full time, full year to achieve an after-tax income equal to the weighted average MBM low-income threshold for Manitoba
Annually indexing this wage rate to the most current MBM threshold. For November 2022 the minimum rate would be $ 16.75 per hour

Public transit

Work with all cities in Manitoba to improve public transit service including increasing frequency, operating hours, and coverage

Permit cyclists to treat stop signs as yields and red lights as stop signs, unless otherwise marked

Require the installation of stop signs and traffic calming measures in back lanes to prevent collisions with cyclists and pedestrians

Introduce new tax incentives for enterprises that repair, reuse, and repurpose items that would otherwise have gone to landfill
Accelerate regulations to phase out non-essential, single-use plastics, and expand the list of items to be phased out

Mandate sorting of waste, compostable material and recyclables for all government departments and agencies, industry and corporations across the province, with meaningful fines in place to address non-compliance
Require that all plastic packaging sold in Manitoba contain at least 50% recycled content by 2030

Introduce targets for reusable, returnable product packaging systems

Support consumers in independently maintaining their electronics, large appliances, machinery, and vehicles, and being able to access cost-effective repairs to those items, by introducing Right to Repair legislation

This would include mandating:

  • The availability of parts at reasonable prices; 
  • Provision of free and publicly available service manuals;  
  • Publicly available repair information such as software tools and schematics; 
  • Repairability labeling to inform consumers of the likely lifetime and fixability of the product; and 
  • Enforcing repairable designs (e.g., replaceable batteries, long-term software support, etc).

Gender-affirming care

Establish dedicated gender-affirming care clinics in each regional health authority and urban centre across the province of Manitoba

Require all general-practice physicians and nurse practitioners to receive training in respecting and caring for transgender individuals, including basic training on the prescription and maintenance of puberty blockers and hormone-replacement therapies
Use reasonable, patient-centred, informed-consent procedures to determine eligibility for all gender-affirming care such rather than mental assessments or requiring diagnosis of gender dysphoria
Eliminate all fees involved in changing the gender marker on provincially regulated identification
Eliminate all fees involved in the legal name change process;
Eliminate the fingerprinting requirement for a legal name change in Manitoba for individuals without a criminal record

As the former Youth City Councillor of her city working in the upper echelon of the municipal government, Arishya has experience working in the field of politics, business, communications, economic empowerment, and community engagement. She has been interviewed by news platforms such as CBC, Winnipeg Free Press, PortageOnline and more for her contributions.

‌Arishya has served on several boards such as the Portage Active Transportation Committee where she discussed various transportation designs and advancements for the city. She also served on the Portage Chamber of Commerce where she gave speeches at AGMs, provided financial and entrepreneurial resources, and encouraged youth engagement in local and provincial chambers. Arishya served on the board of Portage Community Revitalization Corporation where she led teams to develop plans to re-urbanize the city and organized events to provide resources for the underprivileged within the community. She was also appointed as the Chairman of Communities In Bloom after raising the city’s tourism bloom rating from two to four, with five being the highest recognized by Canada.

‌Working with renowned community organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Portage Literacy and Learning Centre, and partnering with local schools, Arishya has been a strong advocate for community engagement since she was fourteen years old.

‌Arishya has also spent years honing her skills as a provincial competitive swimmer, while also working up the ranks as a Flight Corporal in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron where she continuously won the RCAC Effective Speaking Competition year by year, and competed nationally.

‌She is known as an accomplished public speaker, debater, pianist and singer at the national and international level, after being awarded first place at the World’s Scholars Cup, Concour D’art Oratoire and various other Canadian Speech and Debate tournaments.

‌Arishya is a professionally trained and internationally recognized gold medalist at the Royal Conservatory of Music for her talents in Voice and Piano.

‌Arishya is a radio host on the side, having experience working at Mix 96.5 FM, Country 91 FM, CFRY, CFRC 101.9 FM and GoldenWest Radio, the largest independent radio broadcasting company in Canada.

Arishya was hired by the Canadian Institute of Intergovernmental Relations where she managed communications between IIGR representatives and established rapport with political leaders from various provinces across Canada. During the pandemic, Arishya dedicated her time to working at the Portage General Hospital as a frontline worker being promoted in just a month from Medical Patient Screener to Communications In-take Coordinator for her impactful work.

‌One of her biggest passions is her community, which led Arishya to create a city-wide committee called Empathy at the age of 15, which raised funds for underprivileged children to receive Christmas gifts every year. Arishya also hosted events where children would visit various senior homes to sing and play music for them to bridge the generational gap. She organized other events where youth were given the opportunity to meet the Mayor and other City Councillors to encourage voting and youth participation in politics. She has also advocated for Métis history education and was invited to give a speech at the Manitoba Métis Federation’s AGM.

‌Arishya serves on the founding board of the Canadian Young Investors Society as the Chief of External Affairs, a national organization designed to provide resources and opportunities for young Canadians to gain exposure and build competitive knowledge in the industry.

‌Graduating early, and receiving her offer of admission from the prestigious Queen’s University at the age of 16, Arishya is currently a final year candidate for her Bachelors of Arts (Hons.) degree majoring in global development and has decided to pursue a career in business upon graduation.

‌‌At the age of 18, Arishya was awarded and placed as a National Finalist at her first pageant, Miss World Canada, where she was the youngest competitor. She used her platform to advocate for her beliefs on the importance of community engagement and youth empowerment.

‌Following this, she was selected out of thousands of candidates as a Canadian Ambassador for the National Youth Ambassador Caucus, engaging in discussions about prevalent global issues surrounding EDI, economic empowerment, globalization, international relations, climate change and more.

‌At the age of 19, Arishya dedicated her efforts to co-create Manitoba’s largest luxury restaurant, sports bar, lounge and grill, featuring Indian and Pan-Asian Cuisine.

Arishya is currently 20 years old and is the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Taste of Spice Inc. (Manitoba’s largest luxury restaurant, sports bar, and banquet hall) and Olina Group of Companies, which consists of Olina Jewels, Olina Fashions, Olina Development & Leasing Corporation, and more.
