Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
As a family man having grown up in the Collingwood/Wasaga Beach area, my roots in the riding run deep. I believe Simcoe-Grey deserves an enthusiastic advocate whose voice in the legislature will not be ignored and who will be dedicated to work with local constituents.

Ted Crysler was born in Collingwood, the son of a farmer and a homemaker, and raised in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. With five siblings, family time was never dull. He attended Cameron Street Public School, Senior Public School, and Collingwood Collegiate Institute.

After graduating high school, he attended Carleton University in Ottawa and has an Honours B.A. in Political Science and History, and a Master of Arts in International Affairs. Ted then studied at the University of Toronto law school where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1993.

After law school, Ted spent a year working in Europe at the European Court of Human Rights and the North Atlantic Assembly before returning to article at McCarthy Tetrault in Toronto. He was called to the Bar in 1996 and has been practising technology and corporate/commercial law since then. Ted started his career in private practice at law firms in Toronto, and also spent 6 months at the Canadian Mission to the European Union in Brussels. In 2004, he joined the Legal Department at Rogers Communications, where he worked until 2018 as Managing Counsel with responsibility for technology, procurement, network, outsourcing, and patent matters. He currently has his own practice concentrating on technology and corporate/commercial law and working with existing businesses and entrepreneurs in the technology sector.

Ted has secured his Diploma in wine and spirit studies from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, and is an enthusiastic provider of wine education and winetasting events through his wine business, Bacchus Wine Academy Inc. He also completed his Culinary Arts Certificate at George Brown College.

Ted is the Chair of the Wasaga Beach Climate Action Advisory Committee, and a Board member for the Wasaga Beach Climate Action Team, which advances collaboration with the community and the town to act on climate issues. He is also a Board member of the Museum Board for Collingwood. Ted has been a member at First Presbyterian Church in Collingwood and St. Andrew’s Church in Toronto, has been Clerk of Session and the Chair of the Heart of the City Speakers’ Series, and sat on the Growth and Innovation Committee and the Board of the St. Andrew’s Heritage Trust. He volunteered at his son’s school as Fundraising Coordinator and Chair of the School Council. Ted coached novice and peewee house league lacrosse teams. He also is the President of a condominium corporation.

When he’s not working, Ted enjoys bicycling, cross country skiing (he has completed the Coureur des Bois bronze level at the Canadian Ski Marathon), skating, badminton, motorcycling, kayaking, travelling, and playing cello, fiddle and piano. Reason for running

I am running because I believe Simcoe-Grey deserves an enthusiastic advocate whose voice in the legislature will not be ignored and who will be dedicated to work with local constituents and focus on the things that matter most to them.

Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie has a strong plan that I fully endorse. We will focus on getting family doctors and primary care providers for all Ontarians, building housing, including affordable housing, and cutting taxes on home heating and hydro as well as personal income taxes and small business taxes to provide relief for people suffering in this unaffordable economic climate. We will cut fees and taxes that are holding back home building, which will make it more affordable as well. The Better Communities Fund will provide money for infrastructure in towns for water and sewage treatment plants, roads and bridges. I am personally focused on environmental and climate change action, including protecting our farmland, wetlands and forests from sprawl, and having development in the right places, primarily existing towns. We will implement proper land use planning that protects farmland, and increase the cap on the risk management program for farmers. I also want to stop stormwater fees being applied to farmland. I want to see the return of environmental assessments and citizen involvement in local development decisions. And finally, we need to reinvest in our schools and education system to make it the envy of the world again. All of these measures will make life better in Ontario and I'm excited to work towards achieving that goal for everyone in Simcoe-Grey.
