Biography

from their website

Robert has lived in Cardigan since 1996 and has a varied history of occupations and residences during his lifetime in other parts of Canada and abroad.

While living in Alberta he was employed in the Oil Patch as a roughneck. Robert has a BA in Economics from McGill University and trained as a teacher in England. After teaching at an English language school in Cairo, he moved to PEI in 1996 where he built and owned the Gulnare restaurant and pub in Cardigan until 2008. He was also the vice chair of the Cardigan Communities Development Associate for a short period.

Healthcare became a passionate issue of Robert’s while living in Saskatchewan in the early 1960’s; the year after the doctors’ strike resulting from the NDP Government’s introduction of Medicare in the province.“Being born and raised in a country where health care at the point of delivery is free, this seemed like an issue, I should support. I have been a dedicated supporter of the NDP since that time.
