Sheilagh McLean is a federal government retiree and active volunteer who has lived in Ottawa for more than 50 years.
Sheilagh is running for MPP for Nepean because she is passionate about sustainability. She believes that we need a new way of doing politics to manage our transition to the emerging post-carbon economy which is essential for our future. She first got involved in politics as a Green volunteer in the 2015 federal campaign. Since then, she’s been a key player in six elections, including being a GPO Candidate in 2018.
She believes people age sixty-plus have a vital role to play in guiding their communities, and need to stay strong, active and engaged to do so. As a yoga practitioner she’s inspired by the world’s wisdom traditions, including those of Indigenous peoples.
She has a BA in Sociology and Anthropology (Carleton University). Her 33-year federal government career was in human resources, with a focus on leadership and organizational effectiveness development. This included design and delivery of management development programs, policy analysis, strategic planning, program evaluation and audit, and internal consulting. She worked for Health and Welfare Canada, the Canadian International Development Agency and the Public Service Commission.
