Biography

from their website

Carol Dyck is a dedicated community leader, who has been actively involved with several local non-profit organizations and committees. She entered politics during the 2015 federal election after she witnessed first-hand Canada’s tarnished reputation on the international stage due to the then government’s foot-dragging on climate change action, dismantling of environmental regulations, and muzzling of scientists. Since then, she has run as the Green Party of Ontario’s London North Centre candidate in 2018 and 2022, and again for the Green Party of Canada in 2019. Carol believes that the GPO’s progressive platform offers the best opportunity for the province to bolster its economy and tackle the affordability crisis, while simultaneously safeguarding our green spaces and creating more sustainable cities. Originally from Vancouver, Carol has called London home since 2007 and would be proud to represent London North Centre at Queens Park.

Carol first obtained a BA in International Relations at the University of British Columbia, where she also studied French, Spanish and German. Later she moved to Monterey, California where she completed a Masters of Arts in International Environmental Policy at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. While there she gained an interest in law and moved to England where she earned a Masters of Law (LLM) in Environmental Law from the University of Kent. Carol later wanted to expand her knowledge of science so that she could better translate scientific findings to policy makers. In 2013 Carol and her family moved to England where she earned an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management from Oxford University. She believes that tackling environmental issues happens where science, law, economics and policy intercept, and uses her diverse educational background to do so. Currently she is a fourth-year doctoral student in the Faculty of Law at Western University, where she specializes in international environmental law, with a focus on marine areas.

A strong believer in giving back to the community, Carol Dyck regularly engages in volunteer work. She served on the Board of Directors of the London Environmental Network (2017-2020; 2021-2024) and the Thames Talbot Land Trust (2017-2020). She also served on the Board of Directors of the Magisterra Soloists (2021-2023), including as Chair. She was a Member-at-Large on the Environmental and Ecological Planning Advisory Committee to the City of London (2015-2020), and formerly sat on the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, Carol has also worked and volunteered for ReForest London planting trees to expand the Forest City’s canopy, doing river clean-ups for Antler River Rally, and Butt Blitzes for A Greener Future.

Carol is dismayed by the Ford government’s short-sighted and negligent policies. She believes the government should prioritize citizens’ well-being, by investing more in hospitals, schools, affordable housing and doubling ODSP. Ripping up bike lanes, paving over the Green Belt and selling alcohol at corner stores will not help Ontario tackle current and future challenges. We need a government that puts people first.

Carol and her husband have been together for over twenty years and have two teens. Her family would say she is a little too addicted to Duolingo and knitting.
