Shefaza Esmail currently manages the Low Carbon Readiness Program, a collaboration between the Energy & Innovation Power Centre (EPIC) and the Centre for Climate Change Management (CCCM) applied research divisions at Mohawk College. Through the program, she provides carbon, energy, and sustainability expertise to small & medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who are seeking to better integrate sustainability into their businesses. Shefaza has an interdisciplinary background, having graduated from a Bioresource Engineering degree from McGill University, followed by post-graduate studies in Chemical Engineering and Socio-Ecological Sustainability with various work experiences in between. Most recently she was a term lecturer in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability at the University of Waterloo where her focus was on engaging students and promoting curiosity and critical thinking. As a new parent, Shefaza enjoys spending active family time in their car-less lifestyle and connecting with people through local groups like the Mill-Courtland Community Centre, Climate Collaborative, Citizens for Livable Development, and through religious community events and community-supported agriculture (CSA). In her free time, she also enjoys trips to the library, reading, drawing, and rock climbing.
