Biography

My name is Leslie Roosa. I am running for Coquitlam City Council. Thank you for taking the time to get to know the candidates. Muncipal politics is a very important part of our democracy. The following will provide you with an opportunity to get to know me better.

Hello Friends and Neighbours,

My name is Leslie Roosa and I am running to represent you as a Coquitlam City Councillor on October 15th.

Coquitlam has been my home for over 30 years.

Professionally, I am an educator with the Vancouver Board of Education (VSB). I have been employed in this capacity as a Teacher, English Language Learner Specialist, and a Case Manager. I am truly fortunate to work in a field that allows me to work with families that come from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

My formal educational background is from The University of British Columbia. This includes a Masters Degree in Education, a Bachelor Degree in Education, and Bachelor of Arts Degree.

I have also been fortunate to have served on several significant boards. This includes being a Trustee for the BC Teachers Pension Plan, the 10th largest pension plan in Canada with assets over 34 billion dollars, a Director for Community Savings Credit Union, with assets totalling over 800 million dollars, and the SecretaryTreasurer of the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers Association, one of the largest teacher associations in British Columbia. These boards have provided me with an opportunity to develop financial expertise, understand the complexity of organizational structures, and experience the role of governance within large complex institutions.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
As urban density increases in Coquitlam I want to be your voice for ensuring that city services keep pace with population growth. I want to advocate for Coquitam to continue to be the wonderful place to live, work, or have a business.

I would like to bring the experience and skills that I have developed over the years to serve you on Coquitlam City Council. Particularly in these key areas: services for seniors (seniors’ centres and safety initiatives), infrastructure as urban density expands (firefighting services, roads, sewers, water and libraries), and parks and recreation services to keep pace with population growth (expansion of recreation centres, playgrounds, and green spaces). I would also like to address the issue of affordable housing by advocating for housing projects that will enable families, single people, and seniors to call Coquitlam their home. Elections day is on October 15th, I would be honoured to receive your vote.
