Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
I Love Nanaimo & want to bring my 40 years business experience & 2 university degrees to assist in improving Nanaimo's Council decisions.

I have served as a Councillor & Regional District Director in Northern BC & want to bring my leadership & experience to Council.

After graduating from California Polytechnic University in Pomona in 1978, I worked in the Business Programming industry briefly before joining our family business in McBride, BC. Years later, I've been able to make Nanaimo my home. I have a B.Sc.in Accounting and a B.Sc. in Computer Science.

Our family first discovered Nanaimo in 1978 and fell in love. My parents purchased their home here at that time and our family followed in 1989.

I met my wonderful wife, Linda, in Southern California. We were married in 1988 at which time I whisked her away from LA up to our beautiful province. Wow...that makes 34 years hon!

Since then we have raised 2 wonderful children, Bryan and Krystal, that both graduated from Cilaire Elementary and Woodlands Secondary schools. Krystal continued and graduated from VIU.

Our family business kept me in Northern BC for many years. During this time, as Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce, we were able to bring over $500,000 in grant funding to improve our community features and amenities, building our attraction to tourists and locals alike. I was also a member of the team that established the University of Northern BC and establish their remote campuses.

As my involvement grew, I was elected as a Councillor for the Village of McBride and was a Regional Director for the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. This increased my awareness and provided me the experience of working with different levels of local governance. While in office I was able to improve many features of our municipal infrastructure and provided timely analysis of our budget. As a member of the local Hospital Board, we broke through the red tape of the Ministry of Health and were one of the first communities in BC to hire salaried physicians.

With the sale of our business, I was free to move to Nanaimo in 2005 where I've been ever since. Living here has allowed me to be involved with the Chamber Toastmasters team, achieving the level of CTM (Competent Toastmaster). I've also been a member of BNI (Business Networking International). I was part of the team that founded the Rotary Walk for Nepal which recently held its 7th annual walk around Westwood Lake. I was one of the founding member and former Treasurer of Island Community Solar Coop (ICSC), whose mission has been to both increase the awareness and application of solar power on homes, as well as finding ways to provide a conduit for businesses to find a partner in funding solar projects for their businesses to offset their Hydro bill.

Since moving to Nanaimo, I have held the position of Administrator for both a Medical Centre and currently with a local Tree Service company.

I truly Love Nanaimo and want our whole community to be as proud of it as I am.
