Biography

Students first. I will be donating $3K of my salary back to students and teachers who could use it most. Let's create a culture of achievement. I will be defending the innocence of children and saying no to SOGI. Let kids be kids.

I am a husband, father, and at-risk youth support worker in Nanaimo. I studied urban planning, community development, and human geography at the University of Saskatchewan before moving to Nanaimo in 2014. In my work with at-risk youth for the past 7 years (particularly in the last 2) I have seen that schools function as a pressure gauge for students, parents, and teachers. I would like to provide a down-to-earth approach to ensure that the security, stability, and predictability of education prevails. My first task as trustee would be to donate a portion of my salary back to students as a sign of good faith, 3000 dollars. Secondly, I would like to address how to best adjust the budget to remove obvious administrative overspending. Finally, the mental health of students is under attack. I would like to reward teachers and programs that teach students how to learn, rather than what to learn. Further, I would like children to know that they can be accepted for who they are, not what society tells them to be.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
As a trustee I will use my community development skills partnered with mental health awareness to benefit the students of SD68. Lets increase community partnerships and skill building to let kids know they are apart of a strong, resilient community.

My motivation for running as trustee stems from my work with youth in the city and the growing mental health struggles I witness in children and young people. I currently serve as a liaison between MCFD, schools, and parents. I understand the systems in place to protect children and I would like to fortify those systems to include more support for students in the classroom.
