Mikelle Sasakamoose is a member of the Ahatahkakoop Cree Nation and is also Tk’emlups te Secwepemc and Syilx. Bringing with her the experience of working as a federal public servant for 13 years, Mikelle is running for Burnaby School trustee. As a First Nations person, Mikelle's community has overwhelmingly had bad experiences in the Canadian public school system, including here in Burnaby. The results of the District’s anti-racism, equity and inclusion survey indicate this is still the experience of many people in our school community today - something Mikelle can relate to. She will bring her experiences and her voice to work for Burnaby families, to create space for other diverse voices, and to collaborate with everyone to make our school community a safe and welcoming place for all, so that everyone here from students to staff, can achieve their full potential.
