The conversation needs to be continually engaged to enable staff and students to succeed within our schools.
I have worked diligently over the years introducing the conversation alongside colleagues on EDI & Trauma Informed Practices, working deeply on developing a Anti-Harassment/Anti-Discrimination Policy that took five years to round out and is now one of the provinces most robust policies. This is married to our Seclusion/Isolation AP created via a motion I have put forward to our District calling us to have deeper assessments on our schools moving away from "secluding" children in isolation rooms. This is a national problem. I have also moved this to the Provincial level to move into the Ministry via the BCSTA AGM where the motion was passed "as amended."
We need to be leaders who guide with representation, skill, experience, passion and empathy, I am that leader. Our children need spaces where their Educators can lead supported as much as possible so they can capture our children's hearts so their mind will follow. All my work has and will continue to press this conversation while lifting up the higher roles and responsibilities of the Trustee to over see and support the Superintendent, Budget and Strategic Plan as a collective Board.
I will continue to endeavor to lead on this foundation of ACCESS, EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION to serve you and support our children.
