Biography
Although this is his first mandate as an MLA, Mr. D’Amours has been in politics for many years. From 1998 to 2004, he served as a city councillor in Edmundston. In 2004, he was elected as Member of Parliament for the Madawaska-Restigouche riding. He was re-elected in 2006 and again in 2008. During those years, he served as the Official Opposition Critic for National Revenue Canada, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Atlantic Gateway, and Official Languages. He also served on many committees.
Besides being an active member of his party, Mr. D’Amours also holds various positions on boards and participates in organizations and events in his community. Among other things, he has been Vice Chair of the northwestern region for the Tree of Hope provincial campaign and member of the Boards of Directors of Alianco and the Atelier des Copains, and has chaired and co-chaired the organizing committee for the Salon du livre in Edmundston.
Mr. D’Amours has extensive professional experience, including as Business Development Manager at the Business Development Bank of Canada, from 2000 to 2004, and Regional Director at Brunswick News, beginning in 2011.
He received a Bachelor of Arts in multidisciplinary studies (political science and management) in 1997 and a Bachelor of Commerce (management and accounting) in 1998. He also holds diplomas in accounting and management.
Mr. D’Amours lives in Edmundston with his wife, Hélène, and two daughters, Émilie and Alexandra.

M. D’Amours en est à son premier mandat en tant que député provincial mais il évolue en politique depuis bien des années. De 1998 à 2004, il est conseiller municipal de la ville d’Edmundston. En 2004, il est élu député fédéral de la circonscription de Madawaska-Restigouche en 2006, il entame son 2e mandat et ensuite en 2008 son troisième mandat. Durant ces années, il œuvre comme porte-parole pour l’opposition officielle du Revenu national du Canada, pour l’Agence de promotion économique du Canada atlantique, ainsi que de la porte d’entrée de l’Atlantique et des Langues officielles. Par ailleurs, il a siégé de nombreux comités.
En plus d’être un membre actif dans son parti, M. D’Amours, occupe diverses fonctions au sein de conseils d’administrations, d’organisations ou d’événements dans sa communauté. Entre autre, il a agit comme vice-président Nord-Ouest au Cabinet provincial de l’Arbre de l’Espoir, comme membre du Conseil d’administration d’Alianco, comme directeur du Conseil d’administration de l’Atelier des copains et comme président et co-président du Conseil d’administration du Salon du livre d’Edmundston.
M. D’Amours possède un vaste éventail d’expériences professionnelles. Notamment, il a été directeur au développement des affaires à la Banque de développement du Canada de 2000 à 2004 ainsi que directeur régional chez Brunswick News Inc. à compter de 2011.
Diplômé du baccalauréat multidisciplinaire ès arts, sciences politiques et sciences de la gestion en 1997 et en commerce- management et comptabilité en 1998, il possède deux certificats : un en comptabilité et l’autre en management.
M. D’Amours vit à Edmundston avec sa femme Hélène et ses deux filles Émilie et Alexandra.
