Biography
Billy Young is deeply committed to social, environmental, and economic justice, shaped by his experiences living and organizing with artists and musicians across British Columbia. Raised primarily by his mother, a small business owner in Langford and the Cowichan Valley, Billy developed a deep appreciation for the vital role small businesses play in strengthening our communities.
With a BFA in Music from Simon Fraser University, Billy co-founded several arts organizations, fostering creativity and community engagement. The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the closure of his concert production business, only strengthened his resolve to drive meaningful change.
In 2020, Billy joined Hansard Broadcast at the BC Legislative Assembly, where he observed pivotal political events that reshaped his perspective. After three years in public service, he decided to get off the sidelines to work with the BC Greens, drawn to their genuine commitment to progressive change, as championed by Sonia Furstenau and Adam Olsen.
Billy is focused on advocating for critical concerns of Kelowna-Mission, including affordable housing, better access to healthcare, the cost of living, and wildfire prevention.
