Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
A long-term resident of Saanich, Lana Popham knows how important housing, access to healthcare and affordability are for people to have a good quality of life.

The MLA for Saanich South since 2009, Lana Popham is a former Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. She’s focused on making sure that people can build a good life — here in Saanich South and across BC.

As MLA, Lana has been able to deliver real progress in Saanich South on issues that matter to the people who live here. As part of David Eby’s BC NDP team, Lana helped secure a new Urgent Primary Care Centre in Saanich, an oxygenator in Elk Lake to improve water quality, protections for old growth forest on Bear Hill and safety improvements on the Pat Bay Highway at Sayward Road and Claremont Avenue and the ongoing construction of the Keating Cross Road overpass. And there’s more to do.

Taking action for you and your family in Saanich South.

Lana went to the U.B.C. where she studied urban geography with a focus on urban food systems. She started and operated the first certified organic vineyard on the Island and had a certified organic vegetable business. The issues of food security and farmer security inspired her to enter politics in 2009. She's served four terms, two in opposition, two in government. Lana has held two cabinet positions, and she's continued to use the lens of sustainability in each.
