Biography

from their website

Tim Cooper, the BC Green Party candidate for Chilliwack North, has a lifelong commitment to education and science. Originally from England, Tim studied physics and mathematics at Exeter University and later completed his PhD in nuclear physics at the University of Alberta. His academic career led him to positions in Indiana, TRIUMF, McGill, and Surrey University before joining the University College of the Fraser Valley (now the University of the Fraser Valley) in 1992. As a passionate educator, he received the Faculty of Science teaching prize in 2014 and published over 50 research papers in nuclear physics.

In 2004, Tim’s focus shifted to global warming and its imminent dangers. Concerned for the future of his children and generations to come, he began advocating for action on climate change, presenting over 200 talks on its science, economics, and political aspects. This dedication reflects his belief in using scientific understanding to inform public policy.

“I decided to make climate issues the centrepiece of my retirement because our children deserve a future where they can thrive. We cannot afford to ignore the science any longer.”

Although new to the BC Green Party, Tim’s views have long aligned with the party’s values, and he has supported the Greens for over 25 years. Now retired, he aims to leverage his scientific background and public advocacy experience to push for decisive climate action in the legislature. Electing Tim Cooper means bringing an informed, evidence-based approach to tackle the climate crisis and build a sustainable future for all British Columbians.
