Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
Calvin chose to run for office because his entire life he's been frustrated by the lack of leadership on the biggest challenge of our time- the climate crisis. He wanted to run for a party that has a climate plan that matches the urgency and seriousness of the situation.

The climate crisis is Calvin's #1 priority because it is so all-encompassing. Climate disasters like mega-wildfires, heat domes and atmospheric rivers are devastating communities, ecosystems and B.C.'s economy. Climate solutions have so many benefits beyond just helping the environment. By eliminating fossil fuel subsidies and implementing a windfall tax on oil companies, billions of dollars could be raised to invest in things like solar panels, heat pumps and public transit. These things will help people save money and reduce climate pollution as well. There is a tremendous opportunity to create thousands of good jobs in the 21st century economy by investing in clean energy, energy efficiency and ecological restoration. The writing is on the wall for the fossil fuel industry; the world is moving to cleaner sources of energy and B.C. can't risk getting left behind.
