Biography
Calvin holds a BA in Environmental Studies and MA in Sustainability Studies from Trent University. He currently works as the Air Quality Coordinator for Wildsight Golden, and previously the Electric Vehicle Car Share Coordinator for Golden Community Resources Society and Invasive Plant Program Coordinator for Wildsight Golden. He is responsible for Golden committing to 100% renewable energy by 2050, and Powell River endorsing a global treaty to phase out fossil fuels. He also obtained a grant from Columbia Basin Trust to install solar panels on Golden Secondary School. Calvin has also worked as a ski instructor, volunteer ski patrol and sea kayak guide. In his spare time Calvin enjoys being out in the mountains ski touring, ice climbing or rock climbing. He also enjoys playing guitar and keyboard.
Reason for running
The climate crisis is Calvin's #1 priority because it is so all-encompassing. Climate disasters like mega-wildfires, heat domes and atmospheric rivers are devastating communities, ecosystems and B.C.'s economy. Climate solutions have so many benefits beyond just helping the environment. By eliminating fossil fuel subsidies and implementing a windfall tax on oil companies, billions of dollars could be raised to invest in things like solar panels, heat pumps and public transit. These things will help people save money and reduce climate pollution as well. There is a tremendous opportunity to create thousands of good jobs in the 21st century economy by investing in clean energy, energy efficiency and ecological restoration. The writing is on the wall for the fossil fuel industry; the world is moving to cleaner sources of energy and B.C. can't risk getting left behind.
