Jinny’s involvement in politics has been a lifelong venture, fueled by her passion for education and her desire to advocate for working people. Jinny and her family immigrated to England when she was young, and she completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Manchester there before moving to Canada in 1975 to begin her teaching career. Jinny was elected as the president of the BC Teachers' Federation in 2004. She was elected as the MP for Newton-North Delta in 2011 and as the MLA representing Surrey-Panorama in 2017 and 2020. She served in Premier John Horgan’s cabinet as the Minister of Citizens’ Services. Jinny has been a strong advocate for her constituents in both Ottawa and Surrey. Jinny has the proven experienced leadership needed to move Surrey forward. She is excited to make our city the best it can be for every resident.
