Patrick Audley

I'm fighting for an expansion of greenspace (both general tree cover along streets and also more parks!) and amenities that are accessible, safe and useful for everyone. That means more hectares of park space, more trees, better maintenance of facilities, and more rangers.

Climate Change

Energy-Efficient Buildings & Retrofits

Patrick Audley's policy

Our Park facilities should be testing grounds and models for new technology and methods to address climate change. We should lead this area

Green Space

Patrick Audley's policies

Expands parks to a ratio of 1.1 ha of parks per 1000 people.
Expand green canopy coverage wherever possible to create cooler streets and microclimates.
We will work with research groups at UBC and SFU to make our urban green space more climate resilient.
More trees!

Urban Heat

Patrick Audley's policy

Parks should provide a refuge from the heat in extreme weather, and TEAM is for expanding that in any way possible via new facilities.

Housing & Homelessness

Unhoused People

Patrick Audley's policies

Parks are not meant to solve the housing crisis and should be available safely for all to use and enjoy not for some to monopolize.
This problem NEEDS to be addressed at other government levels and without destroying our parks.

Public Spaces & Services

Fitness & Sports Facilities

Patrick Audley's policies

We need to increase the maintenance of existing facilities to keep them viable and useful.
We need new facilities for spots like pickleball rather than competing for courts with similar sports like tennis.
We need to allow younger players to use park space for organized sports where it doesn't damage the grass to free up more fields.

Public Washrooms

Patrick Audley's policies

We need more public washrooms in parks and near facilities. This is key to making parks more accessible.
Additionally, all facilities should be regularly maintained and cleaned.

Biography

I'm an entrepreneur and polymath with strong centrist political views who believes in honest government, applied democracy and the power to change our world for the better. I'm for more green spaces, safer access for all and better management.

What Patrick will bring to the Park Board: Broad business experience covers a huge swath of Vancouvers industries, from high-tech to urban agriculture. His experience as a co-owner in both capital markets firms as well as bookkeeping firms gives him a solid grasp of finance. Extensive travel and work abroad have given him a wealth of knowledge about different ways to attack problems we face as well as a very healthy respect for engaged democracy and responsible governance. Data-driven skill sets for looking at our parks and amenities with less bias and a desire to use those skills to chip away at more significant problems like climate change and community mental health with tools uniquely at the Park Board's disposal. As a downtown resident living at the tail end of the Granville Entertainment District, he has a strong interest in seeing a safer, greener and friendlier downtown accessible to all. Career-wise: Patrick has worked in information technology, finance and business development for more than 25 years, much of that in leadership roles. His background has touched a large number of fields, from computational biology to near-real-time satellite wildfire detection; a surprising number of those fields are useful in solving some of the more complex issues the Park Board faces. Several of his startups have been in the fields of crowd-sourcing, polling and opinion analysis, giving him a healthy respect for the latent knowledge in our electorate.  Passions: As someone who learned to program computers at a very young age, he regularly contributes to the Open Source Movement and is an active privacy advocate. He's a HAM - VE7XBC Patrick and his wife Erin run a film production company currently working on short films and animations focussing on the strange and interesting intersection of horror and comedy.  There's More to Life: Living in one of the craft beer capitals of the world, you can often find him enjoying a wild sour or some excellent nitro stout from one of our many local brewers. He loves exploring the fascinating history of our great city. It's rich, grotty, beautiful, raucous and sometimes just plain strange, but it's always interesting. More than anything, he enjoys meeting new people and hearing their stories.

Reason for running

I'm frustrated with bad decision-making, non-science and data-led governance and outsized voices for large developers and special interests. Let's take back our parks and amenities together.
